 What is software

Software is the program that runs your computer. In a broad sense, it also includes the data that the program processes. Visible devices, like the pc itself and peripherals, are called hardware, whereas software is invisible.

Software includes operating systems (OS) that are involved in hardware control and basic operations, and application software that users directly use.

What is application software



Application software is software that directly realizes the functions that users want to work on their computers. Examples of application software include document creation software, table calculation software, accounting software, mail software, games, image editing software, database software, presentation software, and music software.

What is an operating system (OS)



The OS is software that provides an operating environment for application software and performs basic computer controls such as input / output control and hardware management.

Typical operating systems include Microsoft's Windows, Apple Computer's MacOS, and open-source Linux.

 Firmware



Software that provides basic functionality for controlling hardware. Since it is built into each device, it is rarely changed.

Basic Input / Output System (BIOS)



A program that controls various peripherals connected to a computer. It provides basic input / output means for various devices to the OS and application software.

Device Driver



A program that provides a bridging function for the OS to control peripheral devices.

Middleware



Middleware is software that performs intermediate processing and operation between the OS and application programs in a group of programs generally called software.
